WILMINGTON, Del. - Junior guard
Kyle Steinbergin (Teaneck H.S./Englewood, N.J.) and freshman guard
Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) combined to score 36 points, including 19 in the first half, as Goldey-Beacom College (5-7, 3-3) ended a four-game losing streak by earning a 68-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Nyack College (4-8, 2-4) at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon.
Led by their starting guards, the Lightning were able to earn their first win since a 92-79 victory over Concordia on Dec. 7. Meanwhile, the Warriors lost for the fourth time in their last five games.
The Lightning opened the game with a 9-3 lead as Steinbergin connected on three three-point field goal attempts in the first four minutes of the opening stanza. From there, the Lightning continued to build on the early advantage and led by as many as 15 points en route to a 35-26 lead at the intermission.
After the teams traded five points to open the second half, the Lightning used an 11-2 run over a four-minute span to take a 51-33 lead on a three-point field goal by Steinbergin with 11:49 remaining.
Goldey-Beacom increased its margin to 58-42 with 8:08 left before the Warriors scored 11 consecutive points, including nine from the free throw line, to close the gap to 58-53 with 3:50 remaining.
However, the Lightning used an 8-2 run over the final 3:33 to secure the victory.
Steinbergin scored a game-high 22 points, including 12 in the first half, after making 7 of 16 shots from the floor, including a 6-for-11 performance from three-point range. Meanwhile, Ridgeway-Higgs matched his season high by tallying 14 points with five assists and four rebounds.
Senior forward
Will Williams (Keystone National H.S./Flushing, N.Y.) added a season-high 14 points with eight rebounds for the Lightning, who earned their first win since Dec. 7.
Junior guard
Chris Hampton (Princeton Day Academy/Queens, N.Y.) led Nyack with a team-high 17 points after converting five of eight three-point attempts while senior guard
Isaiah Roberts (Pennsauken, N.J.) contributed 11 points.
The Lightning will continue their three-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when they host Holy Family University in a CACC game at 8 p.m. at the Jones Center.
