WILMINGTON, Del. – Sophomore forward Marcus Porter (Howard H.S./Wilmington, Del.) scored a season-high 30 points and matched his career high with 14 rebounds as Goldey-Beacom College (7-15) earned its second win in the last three games, an 86-83 overtime victory over Lincoln University (12-9) in an overtime game at the Lightning's Joseph West Jones College Center on Wednesday evening.

Porter, who tallied his seventh “double double” of the season, posted his second career 30-point effort after making 11 of 23 shots from the floor and seven of eight free throws. He also added three assists and a steal.

After rallying to tie the game in the closing seconds of regulation, the Lightning scored 9 of the first 12 points to open overtime for a 79-73 advantage with 1:27 remaining on a lay-up and free throw by Porter.

But, the Lions answered with an 8-2 spurt to close within 83-81 with 20 seconds left on a lay-up by junior guard Derrick Washington (Calvin Coolidge H.S./Washington, D.C.).

Freshman guard Akil Charles (Eleanor Roosevelt H.S./Glendale, Md.) converted a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to give Goldey-Beacom an 85-81 edge before Washington answered with a lay-up with six seconds left.

But, the Lightning sealed the victory with two seconds remaining when junior forward Will Williams (Eldon Academy/Flushing, N.Y.) sank one of two free throws.

Led by 12 points from Porter, the Lightning sprinted to a 24-9 lead in the opening 11 minutes of the first half. But, the Lions answered by going on a 16-5 run to trim the margin to 29-25 with 5:41 remaining on a three-point field goal by junior guard George Jackson (Baltimore, Md.).

After the teams exchanged a three-point field goal, Porter gave the Lightning a 34-28 advantage with a lay-up with 2:26 remaining in the opening stanza. However, the Lions scored seven straight points in the final two minutes to take a 35-34 advantage into the intermission.

The Lightning and the Lions battled back and forth in the opening 12 minutes of the second half before Lincoln used back-to-back field goals to take a 60-56 lead with 7:19 left in regulation.

But, the Lightning answered by scoring 8 of the next 10 points to regain the advantage at 64-62 on a Porter lay-up with 5:07 remaining.

Goldey-Beacom held the advantage until the Lions used back-to-back lay-ups by Washington and senior guard Kenny Sharpe (Elite Academy/Chester, Pa.) to take a 70-68 lead with 1:22 remaining.

However, the Lightning forced overtime when freshman guard Gio Atkins (Wissahickon H.S./Blue Bell, Pa.) hit a jumper with 48 seconds remaining to even the score at 70-70.
