ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - One of six seniors playing in their final regular season home game, senior forward Leon Porter (Saint Vincent Pallotti H.S./Laurel, Md.) scored a game-high 19 points and added five assists with five rebounds as Dominican College (20-5, 14-3) earned an 89-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (8-16, 4-11) at the Hennessy Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Chargers reached the 20-win mark for the 10th time in school history. It is the first time Dominican has won 20 games as a Division II program and the first 20-win season since the 2001-02 campaign.

After battling to a 6-6 tie in the opening four minutes of the game, the Chargers used a 15-3 run, including five points from sophomore forward Nick Smith (Middletown H.S./Middletown, N.Y.), to build a commanding 21-9 lead with 10:19 remaining in the first half.

The Lightning trimmed the deficit to 24-15 before Dominican scored 15 of the next 17 points over a five-minute span to extend its advantage to 39-17 with 2:26 remaining on a jumper by junior forward Johnathan Brown (St. John the Baptist H.S./Central Islip, N.Y.).

Goldey-Beacom scored five of the final eight points in the first half to narrow the deficit to 42-22 at the intermission.

The Chargers upped their cushion to 49-26 in the opening five minutes of the second half before the Lightning put together a 13-5 run to trim the margin to 54-39 with 11:59 left in the period on a jumper from junior guard A.J. Picard (Souderton Area H.S./Skippack, Pa.).

But, the Chargers answered by scoring 14 of the next 18 points to take a commanding 68-43 lead with 8:04 left on a pair of free throws from senior forward Cory Quimby (Minisink Valley H.S./Otisville, N.Y.).

From there, Dominican never trailed by fewer than 19 points en route to the victory.

Porter, who was one of four Dominican players to score in double figures, made 6 of 15 field goal attempts, including a 4-for-11 effort from three-point range. Meanwhile, Quimby added 11 points with seven rebounds while senior forward Daniel Woods (Riverdale Baptist H.S./Upper Marlboro, Md.) and junior guard Khaleev Ginyard (St. John the Baptist H.S./Brentwood, N.Y.) each contributed 11 points.

Picard led Goldey-Beacom with 17 points in a losing effort, making 8 of 13 shots from the floor. He also contributed seven rebounds and five assists for the Lightning, who had their two-game win streak snapped.

Senior forward Lawrence Livingston (Caesar Rodney H.S./Dover, Del.) added 13 points with four rebounds and two blocked shots while freshman Akil Charles (Eleanor Roosevelt H.S./Glendale, Md.) came off the bench to score 10 points.

The Lightning will begin a season-ending two-game homestand on Tuesday night when they host Philadelphia University at the Joseph West Jones College Center at 8 p.m.
