WILMINGTON, Del. - Junior center Seamus Radtke (Father Judge H.S./Philadelphia, Pa.) matched his career high by scoring 21 points and added five blocked shots as Chestnut Hill College (2-8, 1-3) snapped an eight-game losing streak by edging Goldey-Beacom College (4-5, 2-3) by a 56-53 margin in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Wednesday evening.

Led by Radtke, the Griffins jumped out to a 14-point lead at the intermission and held off a late comeback by the Lightning to earn their first win since a 68-62 victory over Bloomsburg in the season opener on Nov. 8.

The Griffins used six points by Radtke and sophomore guard Noel Hightower (Woodbury H.S./Woodbury, N.J.) to sprint out to a 19-5 lead in the opening 6:33 of the first half.

After back-to-back three-point field goals by freshman guards Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) and Donte McGill (Mont Clare Academy/Newark, Del.) trimmed the Lightning deficit to 19-11 with 12:38 left in the opening stanza, the Griffins scored 14 of the next 19 points to extend their advantage to 33-16 with 2:13 remaining.

A three-point field goal by junior guard Kyle Steinbergin (Teaneck H.S./Englewood, N.J.) narrowed the margin to 33-19 with 28 seconds left in the period.

The Griffins upped their lead to 38-24 with 15:56 remaining before the Lightning closed the gap to 40-31 by scoring seven of the next nine points, including four points by McGill, with 13:46 left.

The Chestnut Hill lead grew back to 11 points with 6:41 remaining on a three-point field goal by graduate student guard Trevor Trevisan (Salesianum H.S./West Chester, Pa.) before the Lightning answered by scoring nine consecutive points, including four points by junior forward Derrick Archie (Christiana H.S./Wilmington, Del.), to trim the deficit to 51-49 with 3:30 left.

After a Trevisan lay-up increased the advantage to 53-49 with 3:06 remaining, the Lightning used two free throws by Archie and junior center Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill West H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.) to tie the score at 53-53 with 1:15 remaining.

However, the Griffins took advantage of two Goldey-Beacom turnovers in the final 30 seconds as Trevisan secured the victory by making three of four free throws for a 56-53 lead.

En route to leading Chestnut Hill to the victory, Radtke made 10 of 13 shots from the floor, including a three-point attempt, while grabbing four rebounds. He scored 13 of his 21 points in the first half for the Griffins, who shot a season-high 50.0 per cent from the field.

Meanwhile, Trevisan added 14 points with seven rebounds. He made four of five field goal attempts and converted five of six free throws.

Steinbergin and McGill each scored 15 points to lead the Lightning while Gebhart added 10 points with a team-high five rebounds and two steals.

The Lightning, who have lost back-to-back games after a three-game win streak, will begin a two-game road trip on Saturday, Dec. 21 by traveling to Bentley University for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
