Women's Basketball Suffers 68-53 Loss Against Saint Rose

Grover Posts "Double Double" to Lead Lightning

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior guard Gabie Polce (Central Catholic H.S./Chelmsford, Mass.) made 7 of 12 shots from the floor and scored a game-high 20 points to lead the College of Saint Rose (1-1) to its first win of the season, a 68-53 victory over Goldey-Beacom College (1-1) at the University of the Sciences Mixer at Bobby Morgan Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The win allowed the Golden Knights to rebound after a tough 69-68 loss against the host Devils on Friday night.

Led by 14 points from Polce, the Golden Knights jumped out to a 36-29 lead in the first half. She made four of six field goal attempts, including a pair of three-point tries, along with four of five free throws in the opening stanza as Saint Rose overcame an early deficit to take the lead.

The Lightning trimmed the deficit to 47-45 with 13:50 remaining in the second half on a jumper by freshman guard Jasmyne Lewis (Rancocas Valley H.S./Mount Holly, N.J.), but the Golden Knights answered by scoring 17 of the next 21 points to extend the advantage to 64-49 with 4:51 remaining on a free throw by freshman forward Staci Barrett (Long Island Lutheran H.S./Elmont, N.Y.).

From there, the Golden Knights held Goldey-Beacom to just four points over the final five minutes en route to securing the win.

While Polce led the Golden Knights to the victory, Barrett added a "double double" with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Junior forward Chelsea Grover (Seneca H.S./Southampton, N.J.) led the Lightning in the loss with her first "double double" of the season after scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds while junior guard Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill East H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.) added a team-high 12 rebounds with four points.

The Lightning will continue their season-opening road trip on Tuesday, Nov. 12 when they return to Bobby Morgan Arena for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener against the University of the Sciences at 6 p.m.
