WILMINGTON, Del. – Junior guard Kyle Steinbergin (Teaneck H.S./Englewood, N.J.) matched his career high by scoring 18 points as Goldey-Beacom College (2-3) overcame a late deficit to earn a 74-71 victory over Millersville University (1-3) in a non-conference game at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon.

The win allowed the Lightning to snap a three-game losing streak and earn their first victory since a 59-48 decision over Roberts Wesleyan on Nov. 8.

Led by Steinbergin and freshman guard Donte McGill (Mont Clare Academy/Newark, Del.), the Lightning overcame a 67-66 deficit by converting seven of eight free throws to take a 73-67 advantage with 18 seconds remaining.

After a pair of free throws by senior guard Brandon Brown (Cardinal Dougherty H.S./Philadelphia, Pa.) trimmed the deficit to 73-69, Steinbergin made one of two free throws for a five-point edge with 10 seconds remaining.

The Marauders narrowed the gap to 74-71 on a lay-up by Brown with two seconds remaining, but the Lightning ran out the clock to secure the victory.

The late run by the Lightning spoiled a late rally by the Marauders, who overcame a 60-46 deficit with 9:08 remaining. Led by eight points from junior guard Jalen Lester (Arundel H.S./Odenton, Va.), the Marauders outscored Goldey-Beacom by a 19-6 margin over the next seven minutes to take a one-point advantage and set up the Lightning's game-winning spurt.

After the Lightning opened the game by scoring seven of the first nine points, Millersville answered with an 11-2 spurt to take a 13-9 lead with 16:18 left on a three-point field goal by junior guard Josh Jones (Treasure Coast H.S./Fort Pierce, Fla.).

But, the Lightning battled back to take a 19-18 advantage on a jumper by junior forward Derrick Archie (Christiana H.S./Wilmington, Del.) with 12:02 remaining in the first half.

The Marauders trimmed the deficit to 26-25 with 8:30 remaining on a three-point field goal by junior guard Tyree Smith (Simon Gratz H.S./Philadelphia, Pa.) before the Lightning scored 11 of the final 15 points to end the first half for a 37-29 margin at the intermission.

The Lightning opened the second half by scoring 8 of the first 12 points to take a 45-33 lead on a three-point field goal by freshman guard Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) with 15:49 left.

After a pair of three-point baskets closed the gap to 45-39 with 14:19 remaining, the Lightning went on a 15-7 run over the next five minutes to take their largest lead at 60-46 with 9:08 left in regulation.

Steinbergin, who was one of five Goldey-Beacom players to score at least 10 points, made 5 of 14 shots from the floor, including a 5-for-11 performance from three-point range. He also added a pair of steals while playing 36 minutes.
