STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - After claiming its second team championship in as many weeks, it might be understandable for senior
Stewart Reich (Gov. Thomas Johnson H.S./Frederick, Md.) and the Goldey-Beacom College men's cross country team to feel a sense of déjà vu.
Led by Reich, the Lightning had three runners finish in the top five as Goldey-Beacom scored 42 points to earn the team title at the College of Staten Island Invitational at Clove Lakes Park on Saturday morning. The Lightning had a 35-point lead over ASA while the host Dolphins earned third place with a team score of 83 points.
In addition to leading the Lightning to their second straight win, Reich earned the individual champion distinction for the second meet in a row after finishing the 5K course in a time of 16 minutes, 38 seconds.
Meanwhile, freshman
Rudy Braxton (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./Bear, Del.) posted his best finish of the season by earning fourth place after crossing the finish line in a time of 17 minutes, 21 seconds while sophomore
Aaron Easter (Rising Sun H.S./Elkton, Md.) followed in fifth place with a time of 17:23.
Senior
Hugo Morales (Walkersville H.S./Frederick, Md.) earned a 16th place finish with a time of 18:27 while senior
Jabari Chambers (Howard H.S./Wilmington, Del.) completed the 5K race in 18th place with a mark of 18:31.
The Lightning will try to win their third straight title on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they compete at the Hood College Open Classic at Utica Park.
