Opening Tip-Off
After ending the 2012 calendar year with a tough loss at Chestnut Hill, the Lightning will attempt to begin 2013 with a victory on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Bloomfield College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up against the Deacons. Opening tip-off from Bloomfield Gym is slated for 3 p.m. and live stats and video will be available via the Deacons' official athletics website, www.bcdeacons.com.

Updating the Lightning
Currently 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the CACC, the Lightning have lost four of their last six games after dropping a 76-62 decision at Chestnut Hill on Dec. 19 at the Sorgenti Arena. Sophomore guard Marcus Porter led the Lightning by scoring a team-high 20 points with 10 rebounds for his third “double double” in the last four games. However, the Lightning struggled from three-point range by making just 4 of 21 attempts. One of three Goldey-Beacom players who average 10 or more points per game, Porter is the Lightning's leading scorer with a 15.9 average. He is the only player to score in double figures in all 13 games this year.

Scouting Bloomfield
Currently 7-7 overall and 5-1 in the CACC, the Deacons snapped a two-game losing streak by posting a convincing 92-60 victory over Post University in a CACC contest on Thursday night. Sophomore guard Matt Hall came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points by making 8 of 12 field goals, including a four-for-five effort from three-point range. Hall, who also had six rebounds, converted all three of his free throw attempts in the victory as Bloomfield scored 90 or more points for the second time this season. Sophomore guard Marvin Williams is the Deacons' leading scorer by averaging 14.0 points per game while Hall is averaging 13.2 points per outing. Junior center Kevin Udo ranks fourth in the CACC by averaging 9.6 rebounds per game and is also contributing 8.2 points per game. Bloomfield Coach Gerald Holmes is in his 11th season as the Deacons' leader. He has compiled a 198-120 record at Bloomfield along with five CACC championships.

Series Business: Bloomfield
Saturday's game between the Deacons and the Lightning will mark the 22nd meeting between the two teams since the start of the 2001-02 season. Bloomfield has won 15 of the previous 21 affairs, including the last three in a row. The teams have also met in the CACC Tournament in each of the last four seasons, including a pair of appearances in the championship game. The Deacons have won three of the four postseason games in the series while the Lightning claimed an 84-82 victory in the 2010 CACC semifinals. A list of the last six meetings is available by viewing the PDF version of the notes.

A Look at Last Year's Meetings
The Deacons claimed a pair of victories over the Lightning last year, including a 62-50 triumph in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Game. In the Deacons' 70-52 regular season win, junior guard Terry Hicks made six of seven three-point field goals en route to a game-high 19 point performance as Bloomfield broke away at the end of the first half to take a 38-27 lead it did not relinquish. In the CACC Championship Game victory over the Lightning, Marvin Williams scored a team-high 20 points and added eight rebounds as the defending CACC champions used a 19-4 run that spanned the end of the first half and the start of the second half to defeat the Lightning. Sophomore guard Marcus Porter tallied a game-high 22 points in a losing effort for the Lightning, who appeared in their third straight CACC title game.

Points for Porter
After recording his second 20-point performance in the last three games with 20 points at Chestnut Hill on Dec. 19, sophomore guard Marcus Porter upped his team-high scoring average to 15.9 points per game. The 11th-leading scorer in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Porter has scored at least 10 points in all 13 games this season. In addition, he has scored at least 10 points in 37 of 41 career games, including 12 games with at least 20 points. With 675 career points, the Wilmington, Del. native ranks 13th on the Lightning's all-time scoring list.

Block Party
Entering Saturday's game against Bloomfield, senior forward Lawrence Livingston is tied for the CACC lead with 30 blocks in 12 games this season, a 2.50 average. He ranked 14th in NCAA Division II in blocks per game through games of Dec. 16. Livingston, who is the lone senior on this year's team, ranks second in school history with 93 career blocks and needs six blocks to become the Lightning's all-time leader.

What's Ahead for Goldey-Beacom
The Lightning will return home on Tuesday, Jan. 8 to host Wilmington University in the first game of a doubleheader at the Jones Center at 6 p.m. The Wildcats won the first meeting between the two teams on Dec. 10 by a 65-63 margin.
