Opening Tip-Off
Returning to action for the first time since a tough loss against Chestnut Hill last week, the Lightning will try to snap their five-game losing streak on Wednesday night when they travel to Philadelphia University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division match-up against the Rams. Opening tip-off between the Lightning and the Rams is slated to begin at 8 p.m. In addition, live stats for Wednesday's game will be available via the Rams' official athletics website, www.philaurams.com.

Updating the Lightning
Now 5-12 overall and 2-7 in the CACC, the Lightning are still trying to earn their first win of the 2013 calendar year after dropping a tough 105-99 decision against Chestnut Hill in a CACC South Division match-up at the Jones Center last Tuesday evening. The Lightning, who trailed by 58-38 at the intermission, scored 61 points in the second half but could not complete the comeback. Junior guard A.J. Picard led the Lightning by scoring a career-high 38 points, including 25 in the second half, while grabbing a season-high eight rebounds. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Marcus Porter contributed the fifth "double double" in his last seven games with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while adding a career-high seven assists.

Scouting Philadelphia University
Currently 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the CACC, the Rams have won three of their last four games after a 62-48 non-conference victory over Washington Adventist last Wednesday evening at the Gallagher Center. The Rams, who are in the middle of a three-game homestand, were led by freshmen Andre Gibbs and Peter Alexis, who combined to score 32 of the Rams' 62 points against the Shock. Gibbs scored a team-high 18 points, including 15 in the second half, while Alexis added 14 points with a game-high 12 rebounds for his fifth "double double" of the season. Senior guard Jim Connolly is the Rams' leading scorer with a 14.8 average while Gibbs is scoring 14.2 points per outing. Meanwhile, Alexis leads the Rams by averaging 7.2 rebounds per game while scoring 11.6 points per contest. Coach Herb Magee is in his 46th season as the Rams' leader and has guided Philadelphia University to an outstanding 951-381 (.714) record along with 26 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Series Business: Philadelphia University
The Lightning and the Rams will be playing for the 16th time in a series that Philadelphia University leads by a 9-6 margin. However, the Lightning have won four of the last six meetings against the Rams, including the last three in a row. When the Lightning defeated Philadelphia University by a 65-54 margin on Jan. 26 last season, it marked Goldey-Beacom's first win at the Gallagher Center in eight all-time visits. The Lightning are 5-2 all-time at home against the Rams.

A Look at Last Year's Meetings
The Lightning earned a pair of victories over the Rams during the regular season last year to extend their win streak over Philadelphia University to three straight games. After posting a 65-54 victory at the Gallagher Center on Jan. 26, the Lightning posted an 87-70 triumph over the Rams at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Feb. 9. In the first meeting between the two teams, Rich Flemming scored a game-high 24 points, including 15 in the second half, and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Lightning held the Rams to just 30.0 per cent shooting en route to the 11-point win. Flemming made 9 of 18 shots from the floor and was five of nine from the foul line. In the second meeting on Feb. 9, sophomore guard Marcus Porter scored a game-high 28 points while Flemming added 19 points with eight rebounds as the Lightning never trailed en route to the 17-point victory. The Lightning shot a blistering 58.9 per cent from the field and made 17 of 19 free throws.

Lightning Leftovers: Goldey-Beacom vs. Chestnut Hill (Jan. 15)
• The Lightning allowed an opponent to score 100 or more points for the first time since Feb. 14, 2004 when they lost by a 112-84 margin against Post University.
• The Lightning set season highs in field goal attempts (80), three-point field goal attempts (35), assists (17) and made free throws (29). In addition, the 33 free throw attempts were the second-highest total by Goldey-Beacom this season after the Lightning took 35 attempts against Wilmington on Jan. 8.
• Goldey-Beacom set a season high for points in a half by scoring 61 points in the second half against Chestnut Hill. The previous high was a 59-point surge in the second half of Goldey-Beacom's 110-68 victory over Puerto Rico-Mayaquez on Nov. 24.
• Conversely, the 58 points scored by Chestnut Hill in the first half are the most allowed by the Lightning in a half this season. It is the second time this season an opponent has scored 50 or more points in a half against the Lightning after Holy Family scored 50 points in the second half on Jan. 12 in an 83-70 victory in Philadelphia.
• The Lightning have outrebounded their opponents in six of the last eight games. In the loss against Chestnut Hill, the Lightning held a 47-39 rebounding edge over the Griffins.
• The Lightning made 10 or more three-point field goals for just the third time this season. They made 11 three-point field goals against Caldwell on Dec. 8 and had 10 three-point field goals against Nova Southeastern on Nov. 23.
• Sophomore guard Marcus Porter recorded his fifth "double double" in his last seven games by scoring 18 points with a game-high 12 rebounds. In addition, he also dished out a career-high seven assists. During his last seven games, Porter has averaged 18.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
• Porter also extended his streak of consecutive games with at least 10 points to 18 straight games, dating back to the end of last season. During the streak, he has scored 20 or more points three times.

Picard Named as CACC Player of the Week After Career Night
After erupting for a career-high 38 points in the Lightning's 105-99 loss against Chestnut Hill last Tuesday night, junior guard A.J. Picard was named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It marked the second time Picard has earned the award in his career. The Lightning's second-leading scorer this season, Picard scored 25 of his 38 points in the second half as the Lightning trimmed a 20-point half-time deficit to a six-point margin before falling to the Griffins. Picard, who finished the game one point shy of tying the GBC single-game scoring record, made 10 of 21 shots from the floor, including a 5-for-11 effort from three-point range, while converting 13 of 14 free throws.

Steinbergin Goes on Scoring Spree Against Chestnut Hill
Entering last Tuesday's game against Chestnut Hill, sophomore guard Kyle Steinbergin had scored just 18 points in his career. However, the Englewood, N.J. native erupted for a career-high 18 points in the Lightning's 105-99 loss against the Griffins at the Jones Center. He scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half to play a large role in the Lightning's comeback attempt. Steinbergin made 5 of 13 shots from the floor, including a 4-for-10 performance from beyond the arc, and converted four of five free throws in the loss. Steinbergin also played a career-high 22 minutes against the Griffins.

Livingston Sets Goldey-Beacom Career Blocks Record, Eyes Single-Season Mark
With three blocked shots in the Lightning's 105-99 loss against Chestnut Hill last Tuesday night, senior forward Lawrence Livingston became Goldey-Beacom's all-time leader in blocked shots and enters Wednesday's game with 99 career rejections, surpassing the previous record of 98 blocks held by Derek Savage (2004-08). Livingston, who is tied for the CACC lead in total blocks through games of Jan. 21, now needs just four blocks to eclipse the Lightning's single-season record of 39 blocks that Savage set during the 2007-08 season.

What's Ahead for Goldey-Beacom
The Lightning will return home on Saturday afternoon to face CACC North Division opponent Post University at the Joseph West Jones College Center in the second game of a conference doubleheader at approximately 3 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the Lightning women's basketball game against Post. It will be the 15th all-time meeting between the two teams in a series that Post leads by a 10-4 margin. However, the Lighting have won the last three affairs, including a 67-62 victory last year at the Drubner Center.
