PIKE CREEK - Sophomore guard Terry Hicks knocked down six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points as Bloomfield College defeated Goldey-Beacom College, 70-52 Saturday at the Joseph West Jones Center. Both teams came into the afternoon at least sharing a piece of first place in their respective divisions, but it was the Deacons who held the upper hand most of the way, using an 18-7 run over the last 7-and-a-half minutes of the first half to break open a 20-20 tie and forge a 38-27 lead at the break. The Lightning were within 44-34 just over three minutes into the second period thanks to a lay-up by freshman guard
Marcus Porter, but a 22-11 surge put the visitors in control, 66-45 with less than nine minutes to play. There was very little scoring from both sides after that as the Lightning limited the North Division leaders to just one basket over the last 8:45, outscoring them 7-4 over that stretch. Porter led Goldey-Beacom with 14 points, while postgraduates
Jordan Brooks and
Rich Flemming chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively. Flemming added six rebounds and two blocked shots to his stat line. Bloomfield (18-6, 12-2 CACC) connected on 47% of its shots, including 7-for-12 from beyond the arc in winning its fourth straight. The Lightning (11-9, 8-3 CACC) - which came into the weekend as part of a three-way tie for the South Division lead - is now in third place, a game begind Philadelphia University and Chestnut Hill College, both of which won on Saturday. The Lightning next hosts Nyack College in a make-up game on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
