A.J. Picard's 3-pointer with 6:17 to play in the second half triggered a 15-2 game-closing run as Goldey-Beacom College stormed back from a 12-point deficit to stun Concordia College, 71-67, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinal playoff game in Wilmington on Saturday. The sophomore guard registered a game-high 20 points (8-13 FG, 4-6 from 3-point range), while postgraduate forward Rich Flemming notched a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots, nailing the tying jumper with 2:44 left as the Lightning (17-10) held the Clippers without a basket over the final 7:48 to prevail. With the score knotted at 67-67 and 1:21 on the clock, CACC second-team player Marcus Porter was fouled and sank the go-ahead free throws. Then, after a defensive stop, graduate student Ido Yehuda - who
provided a major defensive spark down the stretch - delivered the final blows from the stripe with 24 seconds remaining. Concordia (12-15) unleashed three 3-pointers in its final possession, all to no avail, as the visitors fell for the second time in as many Saturdays at the Joseph West Jones Center. Goldey-Beacom - which advances to the conference semifinals for the fourth consecutive season - was forced to play from behind all afternoon, trailing 37-34 at halftime before the Clippers expanded  to a 61-49 advantage on a 3-pointer by Dominique Spann (10 points) with 9:32 on the clock. Porter - one of the conference's most promising freshmen - totaled 12 points and five rebounds for the winners, while Yehuda chipped in with three rebounds, three assists, four steals and a blocked shot in limited minutes of reserve duty. Brandon Whitaker was high man for Concordia with 18 points, including the 1,000th of his career, while star forward Argelix Gil (15 points, 12
rebounds) was held scoreless in the second half. Both teams' shooting numbers were nearly identical from the floor (CC 44%, GBC 43%) and mirror images from beyond the arc (6-16). The Lightning - who will take on the North Division's second seed, Dominican College, on Friday afternoon at 2:30 - made more free throws (11-20 to 7-10) and corralled more rebounds (42-36) while outscoring their guests on second-chance points (19-9). And even though the turnover numbers were virtually even (GBC 14, DC 15), the Lightning feasted on mistake opportunities by a 24-13 count.
