FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Sophomore guard Charles Jackson (Brandywine H.S./Wilmington, Del.) scored a career-high 24 points and added six rebounds to lead Goldey-Beacom College (2-4) to a convincing 110-68 victory over the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaquez (2-4) in the consolation game of the Nova Southeastern University Thanksgiving Classic at NSU Arena on Saturday evening.

Led by Jackson, the Lightning posted their highest single-game point total since Nov. 22, 2008 when they defeated Penn State-Abington by a 110-72 margin.

One of six Goldey-Beacom players to score in double figures, Jackson made 8 of 14 shots from the floor. He also made eight of nine free throw attempts as the Lightning shot a season-high 82.1 per cent from the foul line.

After the Tanzans opened the game with a jumper by junior center Robby Mercado Galvan (Isabela, P.R.), the Lightning went on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes for a 13-2 advantage with 16:42 remaining in the first half.

The Lightning maintained that advantage for the remainder of the first half and used an 11-0 run in the final 2:08 to take a commanding 51-30 advantage into the intermission.

Led by Jackson, the Lightning continued to increase their advantage and led by as many as 46 points with 1:27 remaining in the period on a jumper by freshman Malcolm Keys (Sussex Central H.S./Lewes, Del.). Jackson tallied 18 of his game-high 24 points in the second half as Goldey-Beacom shot a blistering 59.0 per cent from the field.

While Jackson led the Lightning to the victory, junior forward Jordan Thorpe (Mount Zion Christian Academy/Newburgh, N.Y.) added 17 points by making 8 of 10 field goal attempts. He also added seven rebounds as the Lightning held a 48-28 rebounding advantage.

Meanwhile, senior forward Lawrence Livingston (Caesar Rodney H.S./Dover, Del.) posted his first “double double” of the season by scoring 13 points with a game-high 12 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Junior guard A.J. Picard (Souderton Area H.S./Skippack, Pa.) added 16 points with four rebounds and three assists while sophomore Marcus Porter (Howard H.S./Wilmington, Del.) contributed 15 points by making 6 of 12 shots from the floor along with both of his free throw attempts.

Senior guard Mario Diaz Rivera (Orlando, Fla.) scored 14 points to lead the Tanzans in a losing effort while freshman forward Jerome Caraballo (Sabana Grande, P.R.) added 10 points with seven rebounds.

The Lightning, who averaged 97.5 points per game in their two games at the NSU Thanksgiving Classic, will continue their five-game road trip on Wednesday night when they visit Mercy College for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Mavericks.
