PIKE CREEK, Del. - The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team was defeated by Dominican College, 3-0 on Sat. afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

The Lightning fell to 0-6 (0-4 CACC) on the season while Dominican, the pre-season favorite to win the CACC, improved to 4-3-2 (3-2-1 CACC).

GBC was unable to generate much offense as the Chargers held a commanding 14-3 shot advantage and 5-0 corner kick advantage. Lightning goalkeeper Ignacio Farias made four saves and allowed three goals in 59 minutes of work and sophomore Carlos Meinhard made two stops in the final 31 minutes and allowed no goals. Juniors Ricky Jackson and Matt Bik and senior Kwame Appiah each had one shot for the hosts.

Manuel Valencia scored the game's first goal in the 22nd minute as he headed in a cross from Jorge Zubillaga to put Dominican in front, 1-0. That is how the score would stay until over eight minutes into the second half.

Alan Heavey would add an insurance goal for the Chargers in the 54th minute, heading in a cross from Pedro De Araujo for a 2-0 Dominican lead. A little over three minutes later, Clodalain Lolo fired a shot from about 25-yards out and beat Farias to the upper right-hand corner of the net for a third Charger goal, and that is how the score would stay.

Next up for GBC is a visit to crosstown rival Wilmington University on Thurs., Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.
