Lightning Volleyball Sputters at Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Freshman Tyla Wells led the Lightning with five kills, sophomore setter Monica Dempsey had 11 assists and junior Roni Shaner had 10 digs, but the Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-10) at perennial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference powerhouse Georgian Court University on Thurs. night.

The Lightning fell to 3-9 overall and 0-7 in league play while the four-year reigning CACC champion Lions improved to 4-11 overall and 4-3 in the CACC.

Georgian Court hit .229 percent (35k 16e 83 ta) as a team while the Lightning were -.01 percent (14k 15e 86 ta). Much of the Lightning's struggles were their own doing, as they committed seven service errors, seven return errors, eight blocking errors and four ball-handling errors on the night as a team.

Leading the Lions were Amy Berry (14 kills), Brandi Arsenault (nine kills), Karol Oliveros (28 assists) and Nicole Sparks (19 digs).

GBC comes back home to the Jones Center for a CACC clash against Nyack College of the North Division. The Warriors are 2-8 overall, 2-6 in the CACC. The match begins at 2 p.m.
