Goldey-Beacom Volleyball Gets Swept at Concordia, 3-0

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team played very competitive in all three sets but were swept, 3-0 for the fourth straight match on Sat. against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Concordia.

The Lightning (3-7, 0-5 CACC) forced extra play in the first set before falling 26-24, lost 25-18 in the second set and then were outscored 25-20 in the third set to close out the match. Concordia improved to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in league play with the win.

Senior co-captain A.J. Hicks turned in a season-high 25 digs to lead GBC defensively, while sophomore co-captain Monica Dempsey pitched in with 12 digs and 12 assists from her setter position. Junior Roni Shaner led the Lightning offensively with eight kills. Graduate student Lauren Witzke tied her career-high with 11 digs and added one service ace. Witzke is second on the team with 12 aces on the season.

Irina Impellittiere led the Clippers with 16 kills and a .394 hitting percentage to go with 11 digs and a service ace. Hillary Hoffman directed the offense with 30 assists.

GBC is back in action on Tues., Sept. 28 when the Lightning host CACC foe Philadelphia University at 7 p.m. in the Jones Center.
