Just the second-ever meeting between these two schools, Goldey-Beacom holds a 1-0 series advantage having defeated the Marauders at Pucillo Gymnasium, 66-52. That game snapped a Millersville two-game win streak, and until an overtime win over USciences this past Thurs., the Marauders had not won back-to-back games ever since.
The Lightning (3-5), on a two-game winning streak of their own, will look to snap Millersville's two-game win streak a second consecutive year and inch closer to evening their overall mark for the year.
Head coach Chuck Hammond's squad has annihilated two straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponents (Wilmington and Chestnut Hill) and will now look to improve on its mark against the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Lightning are just 1-3 this year against the PSAC.
Senior guard Jon Crawford has been on a tear of late, shooting 14-of-17 (.824) from the field in his last two games and averaging 19 points and four assists per-game in two Lightning wins. Also, senior forward Terrence Parkes tied Crawford for the game-high scoring mark of 20 points on Sat. against Chestnut Hill and pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds. Azeez Ellegood, the team's senior point guard, has provided a big spark as well, averaging 13.5 points and 5.5 assists per-game in his last two outings.
Meanwhile, Millersville comes in with a record of 3-2 and is 1-1 against the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Marauders lost on the road at Philadelphia, 67-64 on Nov. 28, but just recently defeated USciences in overtime, 64-57.
Millersville is led by freshman guard Mike Holley and junior forward Demond Vance. Holley is tops on the team with a 15.0-point scoring average and he also leads the team in assists (4.0 per-game), steals (2.6) and free-throw percentage (.786). Vance, a 6-foot-4 forward, averages 9.2 points per-game, and is coming off a career-game against USciences where he scored 19 points, including a three-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime.
This matchup features a high-powered Lightning offense that comes in scoring 75.2 points per-game against a stingy Marauder defense that allows just 60.0 points per-game. Meanwhile, GBC has allowed opponents to shoot 45.3 percent this season, but faces a Millersville team tonight that has not shot over 40 percent this season.
Last year's meeting saw the Lightning take a five-point halftime lead and then hold the Marauders to 18.8 percent shooting (including 1-of-15 from three-point range) from the field and just 22 second-half points as they cruised to a 66-52 road victory.
