WILMINGTON, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over West Chester University on Tues. afternoon at DelCastle Park. The Lightning took all three doubles matches and the last four of the six singles matches to claim the win.

Sophomore Marina Sales and freshman Blanca Sancho defeated WCU's Brittany Counts and Ali Fetter, 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Melanie Bonomo and Vanessa Velasquez followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2 over former GBC player Luisi Souto and Stephi Ritchie. Juniors Luciana and Daniela Pereira finished out doubles play with a commanding 8-0 victory at No. 3 over Jess Trahey and Allie Sielhem.

In singles play, Bonomo and Sales lost their matches at No. 1 and 2, respectively, but the Lightning came storming back to win the last four.

Sancho led the Lightning burst with a tough, 6-4, 6-3 win over Fetter. Velasquez followed with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.

Luciana and Daniela wrapped things up with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Luciana defeated Jess Trahey, 6-0, 6-2, and Daniela, who is undefeated in singles play this year, defeated Nealy Esposito 6-2, 6-0.

GBC is back in action on Thurs., Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. as the Lightning visit Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Concordia College.
