Goldey-Beacom College Department of Athletics Announces Ninth Hall of Fame Class

Goldey-Beacom is pleased to announce the College's ninth Athletics Hall of Fame Class will include Lori Knabb (Dreger) from women's soccer, Kim Rowley (Matthews) from women's basketball, Daimen and Jeremy Michaels from men's soccer and former Dean of Students Bernadette Wimberley.

The Goldey-Beacom Athletics Hall of Fame Brunch and Induction Ceremony will take place Sunday, October 4 as part of the College's Homecoming and Lightning Family Weekend. The weekend's events from October 2-4 include opportunities for alums to come back on campus to reunite with many friends and also see the many changes that many who continue to be part of the family help ignite. It also will give an opportunity for parents to come on campus and spend time with their kids as part of an atmosphere filled with festivities and fun.

"I am very excited to welcome this incredible group back to campus in October," Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said. "I look forward to honoring their significant contributions to the College's history, celebrating what has been built upon the foundation they laid and sharing our plans for what is next to come for the Lightning."

Knabb not only made a dent in the program's record book, but she was instrumental in helping Goldey-Beacom elevate from NAIA status to its present level of NCAA Division II.

She was picked first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in 2005 in helping GBC get to the conference final, one year after she was tabbed second team all-conference. Knabb played a vital role in the 2002 unit going 14-5-2 and reaching the NAIA Region X Independent Tournament final.

Knabb graduated first in Goldey-Beacom history with 30 goals, 32 assists and 92 points. She remains the program leader in assists and points.

Rowley was one of the area's top frontcourt players to then-unprecedented heights. Her freshman campaign of 2003-04 saw her picked second team All-CACC in which she had then single-season school records with a .524 field goal percentage and 262 rebounds.

She then helped the 2005-06 squad make the CACC Tournament for the first time in program history and the 2006-07 unit get its first such victory, winning in the quarterfinals at Dominican (NY).

Rowley graduated first in team history with 1,436 points, 1,026 rebounds, 533 field goals and a .482 field goal percentage.

The Michaels brothers from 1996-99 set the table for national exposure the program would find in 2002, when it played in the NAIA National Tournament. The squad over their first three years won a combined 42 games before the 1999 unit made the CACC Tournament for the first time in program history.

Daimen graduated first in team history with 65 goals, 29 assists and 159 points. His 26 goals, 13 assists and 65 points from the 1996 campaign all were single-season team records.

Jeremy graduated second with 34 goals, 23 assists and 91 points. He achieved a personal-best 16 goals in 1996, 11 assists in 1997 and 40 points that same year.

When Wimberley arrived in 1984, Goldey-Beacom did not have a true athletic department. Her leadership and determination changed that with the creation of the department that had two NAIA sports to the one that sponsored 11 NCAA teams and had six full-time employees upon her 2016 retirement.

Always gregarious and always one who supported the student-athletes, Wimberley led with authority, care, compassion and resourcefulness. This foundation that she spearheaded paved the way for the national experience and exposure the department would have on multiple occasions.
