PHILADELPHIA – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team won all six singles matches and all three doubles matches for a 9-0 shutout victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Chestnut Hill College on Tues. afternoon.

With the win, the Lightning improve to 4-0 (1-0 CACC) as CHC falls to 0-6 (0-2 CACC).

Head coach Joe Kissel made some changes to GBC's doubles teams, as sophomore Marina Sales and junior Luciana Pereira were named the No. 1 pairing. The two responded with an 8-2 victory over CHC's Erin Andersen and Danielle Knott.

Freshmen Melanie Bonomo and Vanessa Velasquez stayed at No. 2 doubles, and won their match convincingly, 8-3.

At No. 3 doubles, junior Daniela Pereira and sophomore Jennifer Jones got the nod, and they won a hard-fought match, 8-6 over Sara and Regina Doherty.

In singles play, Bonomo defeated Erin Andersen, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win by Sales over Danielle Knott at No. 2 singles.

Velasquez improved to 6-1 on the year at No. 3 singles with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Kristen Wasson. Luciana, fresh off advancing to the quarterfinals of the ITA tournament this past weekend, won her seventh singles match of the season at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-0.

Daniela then defeated Sarah Doherty, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, and Jones finished off the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Lightning are back in action on Thurs., Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. as they visit CACC foe, Caldwell.
