PHILADELPHIA – Junior Luciana Pereira advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women's B Singles bracket and teamed up with her twin sister Daniela to reach the third round of the Women's B Doubles field to highlight Goldey-Beacom's appearance in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships held at Arthur Ashe, Jr. Youth Tennis Center this past weekend.

Luciana cruised to 8-0, 8-1 and 8-1 victories in the first three rounds before falling to Bentley's Lifton, 8-1 in the quarterfinals.

Also in Women's B Singles play, freshman Vanessa Velasquez fought her way through the first two rounds with two tough wins, 8-6 and 9-8 (7-5). But she would fall to Bryant's McCabe, 8-3 in the third round.

Freshman Anastasia Chibrikova won her first-round match as well, defeating Merrimack's Carroll, 8-2, but fell in the second round, 8-1.

In Women's A Singles play, freshman Melanie Bonomo reached the third round after a first-round bye and a 6-4, 6-2 win in the second round. She would fall in the third round, 6-1, 6-0.

Sophomore Marina Sales and freshman Blanca Sancho would each earn first-round byes but fall in the second round.

Bonomo and Velasquez earned a first-round bye, but were defeated, 8-0 in the second round of Women's A Doubles play. Sales and Sancho were ousted in the first round, 8-2.

The Lightning are back in action on Tues., Sept. 22 at 4 p.m. as they visit Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Chestnut Hill College.
