BRONX, N.Y. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's cross country team finished third in a field of 14 teams at the Baruch 8K Invitational at Van Cortland Park on Sunday. The Lightning finished with a team score of 105 points, totaled from the team's first five runners.
SUNY-Maritime won the meet with a team score of 59 points. The host, Baruch College, finished second with 79, followed by GBC at third. John Jay (127) and Yeshiva (145) rounded out the top-5.
Rounding out the competition was FDU-Florham (187), Brooklyn (204), CCNY (226), Polytechnic NYU (231), Lehman (244), City Tech (251), York (261), and Queensborough (264). The Bronx Community College did not score as a team.
Leading the way for the Lightning again was sophomore Ben Kinley, who finished sixth overall in a field of 108 runners with a time of 31:34.
Freshman David Zartler came next for GBC with a time of 33:05 and a 13th place finish, followed by senior Seneca Curry's 26th place finish at 34:22.
Junior new comer to the team, Trevor Freburger (35:08) and sophomore Paul Graybeal finished back-to-back at 34th and 35th, respectively.
“Trevor showed guts moving into a varsity position on the team and helping us clinch a third-place finish,” head coach Brian Conley said.
Freshman Ali Jafri then finished with a time of 35:56, for a 43rd place finish overall, and Jon Michalechen placed 54th with a time of 37:55. Finishing with a time of 41:10 for 80th place overall was sophomore Demetris Harding.
Goldey-Beacom's next meet is at Steven's Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. on Sept. 25.
