Waterbury, CT – Weldon, Nolan & Acosta lead Lightning in big win over Post
Janae Weldon, Kellyn Nolan and Evebonee Acosta were a triple treat at Post University this past Saturday as they lead the Lightning to their fourth CACC win of the season.
In a closely contested game in Connecticut, the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning and the Post University Eagles traded basketball from the outset. With eight lead changes and four tied scores, the first half ended with the Lightning trailing the Eagles 33-30.
The Lightning took a six-point lead early in the second half, only to see the Eagles fly back to take a 52-51 advantage, with 8:47 left on the clock. Post would then control the clock and the lead for the next seven minutes, until a three-pointer from sophomore Janae Weldon (19 points, 3 assists, 2 steals on the night) cut the lead down to one, 64-63. A pair of free throws from sophomore Lindsay Duck, with :48 seconds remaining pushed the Lightning in front fro good, 65-64. After an Eagles' missed shot, freshman Evebonee Acosta sealed the win with a pair of free throws, as the Lightning battled through 13 lead changes, to come out on top 68-64.
Senior Kellyn Nolan added 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Evebonee Acosta joined in with 15 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Sophomore Arielle Alford chipped in 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 assists.
The Lightning will conclude their season on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, as the play host the Chestnut Hill College at 6:00pm.
