Wilmington, DE – Acosta's 20 lead Lightning in two point CACC win over Felician

 

Freshman Evebonee Acosta (20 points, 5 assists) led the Lightning this past Saturday in their third CACC victory, over visiting Felician College, 62-60.  The Lightning started the game slow, but struck back with a pressing defense, and entered halftime with a 28-23 advantage over the Golden Falcons.

 

The Lightning increased their lead in the second to eleven (54-43), with 6:20 to play, but Felician went on a 12-3 run to close the gap to 57-55, with 2:09 remaining.  Sophomore Janae Weldon's basket at 1:04, made it 59-55, but a Golden Falcon's 3-pointer brought the visitors to within a point, 59-58.  Acosta converted two free throws with 26 seconds remaining, before another Felician jumper cut the lead to one with nine seconds on the clock.  Acosta hit one of two at the foul line to make it 62-60.  A last second 3-pointer from the Golden Falcons came up short, and the Lightning secured the 62-60 win.

 

Janae Weldon added 16 points, 4 steals and 4 assists, while senior Kellyn Nolan totaled 12 points and 4 steals.  Sophomore Arielle Alford was again strong on the defensive end, with 13 rebounds and 7 blocks. 

 

The Lightning will host their annual Think Pink Event against the University of the Science in Philadelphia this Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 6:00pm.
