PIKE CREEK, Del. – Junior transfer Terrence Parkes and senior guard Kyle White combined to score 48 points as the Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team cruised to an 85-68 victory Thurs. night over Washington Adventist at the Joseph West Jones Center.
Parkes poured in a season-high 28 points on 10-of-20 from the field and four-for-eight from three-point range. White (20 points, 10 rebounds) dominated in the second half after a quiet first half and wound up with his third straight 20-point effort in as many games this season as well as his first double-double. Junior guard Azeez Ellegood pitched in with 12 points and five assists.
Washington Adventist kept it close throughout the first half, even closing to within two (41-39) after Jamie Newton (17 points, five rebounds) hit two quick three-point field goals in about an eight second span, the second one as time expired.
That first stanza featured four ties and three lead changes, as WAU, which outscored the Lightning 16-12 in the paint, looked as though it might have had a chance to “shock” GBC on its home floor.
But Parkes came out of the break on fire, leading GBC on a 10-2 run by scoring the Lightning's first seven points of the half. The Lightning took over from there, shooting 40.7 percent from the field to WAU's 27.0 percent to outscore the Shock, 44-29 in the second frame.
The Lightning dominated on the boards, 55-37 and were very unselfish with the basketball, dishing out 16 assists to WAU's three.
GBC is back in action on Sat. afternoon at 3 p.m. when the Lightning host their third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent of the season in Cheyney University (3-1).
