PIKE CREEK, Del. – Five different Lightning players scored in double-figures as a team effort guided the Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team to its sixth straight victory, 75-62 over Bloomsburg University in non-league action Tues. night at the Joseph West Jones Center.
Junior point guard Azeez Ellegood scored a game-high 17 points and dished out five assists, and junior forward Terrence Parkes scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Senior guard Kyle White pitched in 14 points, senior forward Troy Esquilin poured in 13 and junior guard Sam McDuffie registered 10 points.
Junior guard Darnell Cephas saw 13 minutes of action, filling in for McDuffie while he had an open wound bandaged and changed his bloodied jersey, and contributed three points, three rebounds and two steals. Also, sophomore transfer Phil Brooks scored the first points of his GBC career with a jumper late in the second half.
Meanwhile, Bloomsburg (4-4) had four scorers in double-figures with forwards Ed Hall (14 points) and Larry Webster (12 points) leading the way. Both were very effective inside and helped the Huskies outscore the Lightning 44-40 in the paint.
Both teams shot very well from the floor with GBC (8-2) shooting slightly better (54 percent to 52 percent). The Lightning held a distinct advantage in free-throw shooting, making 14-of-16 at the line (87.5 percent) to 7-of-20 (35 percent) by Bloomsburg. GBC also out-rebounded BU, 32-27.
The Lightning, now 3-2 against the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and winners of six straight games, face a tough challenge in their next game on Jan. 5 as they host the undefeated (6-0) and No. 7 ranked team in the nation, Kutztown University at 7 p.m. in the Jones Center.
