PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team, which recently clinched a second-place finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and a semifinal appearance on Tues., defeated visiting Dowling College, 6-3 on Fri. afternoon at Del Castle Tennis Center.
The Lightning improved to 11-1 on the season, and Dowling College, the No. 2 team in the East Coast Conference standings behind just Queens College, fell to 6-3. GBC won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches to claim the victory.
Sophomore Marina Sales and freshman Blanca Sancho lost a tough match at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, but the Lightning went on to win at No. 2 and 3 doubles. 
Freshmen Melanie Bonomo and Vanessa Velasquez earned their 11th win of the season at No. 2 doubles, defeating Diane Robiswick and Cristina Sousa, 8-5. 
Then, the Pereira twins, Luciana and Daniela improved to 5-2 at No. 3 doubles with a convincing 8-1 win over Chanida Monparponth and Alexa Speyer.
In singles play, Bonomo and Sancho fell at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively, but the Lightning won the other four singles matches.
Sales improved to 9-2 at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Cristina Hofmann, and Velasquez improved to 9-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Sousa.
The Pereira sisters closed out the match with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Luciana improved to 11-1 with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5, and Daniela earned her 10th win of the season at No. 6 singles, defeating Marissa Barrasso, 6-2, 6-0. Daniela is 10-1 on the season.
GBC has one more match on Sun. at home versus CACC foe Post University at 1 p.m. Then, the No. 2 Lightning will host No. 3 Holy Family on Tues., Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. in the semifinal round of the CACC Women's Tennis Tournament. The winner will play for the championship on Thurs., Oct. 15 at Chestnut Hill College against the winner of the other semifinal game.
