PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team resumed play with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Holy Family on Wed. afternoon after the match was halted on Sept. 16 in the midst of a 3-3 tie. The Lightning persevered under very windy and cold conditions and won their third straight match, 5-3 to improve to 9-1 (6-1 CACC) on the season and stay in contention to host a CACC semifinal match on Oct. 13.
Back on Sept. 16, GBC's freshmen Melanie Bonomo  and Vanessa Velasquez defeated HFU's Melanie Pulsinelli and Liana Lui, 8-3 at the No. 2 spot for the Lightning's only doubles win. Sophomore Marina Sales and freshman Blanca Sancho fell at No. 1 doubles and Luciana and Daniela Pereira fell at No. 3.
Only three singles matches were completed that day: Bonomo was defeated by Juliana Victoria, but Luciana and Daniela Pereira won at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Luciana defeated Linda Piecyk 6-3, 6-2, and Daniela defeated Cheslea Brown 6-4, 6-0. The match was halted before a winner was decided at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles.
When play resumed today, Sales pulled out a gritty 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (2) win over Jin Querubin at No. 2 singles, and Sancho defeated Pulsinelli 6-4, 7-5 to clinch the match. Velasquez was ahead 7-6 (5), 1-6, 2-1, but it was decided that once a team reached five points, the match would be stopped.
The loss drops Holy Family to 8-3, (6-2 CACC) and out of a tie for second with GBC.
