PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's tennis team improved to 8-1 on the season as the Lightning cruised past Georgian Court on Mon. afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Del Castle Tennis Center.

GBC won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches to complete the shutout win.

In doubles play, sophomore Marina Sales and freshman Blanca Sancho shut out Brittany Aimone and Natalie Grieci, 8-0 at the No. 1 spot. The freshmen duo of Melanie Bonomo and Vanessa Velasquez then defeated Caitlyn Lawrence and Alexus McClintic at the No. 2 spot, 8-1.

Sophomore Jennifer Jones and freshman Anastasia Chibrikova got the call at No. 3 doubles today, and they responded with a 9-7 win over Victoria Gaffney and Sarah Lockenmeyer.

In singles play, Bonomo defated Aimone 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, followed by two shutout victories (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2 and 3 singles by Sales and Sancho.

Velasquez then defeated Lawrence at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and Luciana and Daniela Pereira wrapped up the matches with wins at No. 5 and 6.

The Lightning will finish its match against Holy Family at Del Castle Tennis Center on Wed., Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. The match was halted back in Sept. due to rain, so the two teams will play out the remaining matches on Wednesday evening.
