Wilmington, DE – Acosta leads come back win over St. Thomas Aquinas

The Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team topped St. Thomas Aquinas College 57-48 this past Saturday at the Joseph West Jones Center.  The Lightning were led by sophomore Evebonee Acosta's 20 points, 5 steals, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists, and sophomore Janae Weldon's 13 points and 4 rebounds.

The Spartans lead 25-23 at half, as teams struggled from the floor, after putting up a combined 52 shots.   

The Lightning found themselves down by nine with 8:24 left in the game, until Evebonee Acosta sparked the comeback.  Acosta led charge with a combination of three pointers, lay-ups and free throws to help pull the Lightning ahead, as they outscored the Spartans 11-2 in the final four minutes.  With just 28 seconds left on the clock, Meghan Knowles sealed the win by knocking down two free throws for the Lightning.   

The Lightning will next travel to Lock Haven University on Thursday, December 18, 2008 for their last game before the holiday break.
