Goldey-Beacom College fell to Jefferson University, 4-2, on the road Tuesday afternoon.
The Lightning jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the opening five minutes. Senior Derrick Muhire (Kigali, Rwanda) put Goldey-Beacom on the board just 39 seconds into the match for his second goal of the season, assisted by freshman Yuma Reichert (Offenbach, Germany). Junior Sam Ball (Salisbury, MD) then added to the Lightning's advantage in the fifth minute, making it 2-0.
Jefferson responded with two goals before halftime to even the score. Brandon Murataj scored in the 33rd minute off an assist from Miles Hood, then Cole McEvoy found the back of the net in the 43rd minute off an assist from Jude Clymer. The Rams took their first lead of the afternoon in the 52nd minute when McEvoy scored off a penalty kick. Jefferson added another goal in the 87th minute, with Mohamed Elhendawy scoring off an assist from Ishmeal Kromah.
Jefferson outshot Goldey-Beacom, 19-16. Freshman Franek Sadczuk (Chester, England) led the Lightning with five shots, while Reichert added four and Ball contributed three.
Sophomore goalkeeper Adham Mohamed (West Windsor, NJ) recorded seven saves for Goldey-Beacom, while Jefferson goalkeeper JR Sexton made 10 saves.
With the result, Goldey-Beacom moves to 1-6-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Lightning return to action Saturday, October 3, when they host Dominican for Goldey-Beacom's Homecoming, looking for their first conference win of the season.
