Game Recap: Volleyball |

Volleyball Wins Twice in Upstate New York

Goldey-Beacom endured nine tough sets to make it four straight victories with triumphs over Saint Thomas Aquinas and host Pace in Pleasantville, NY.

Fresh off its stunning 3-1 triumph Wednesday over West Chester, GBC got a 3-2 win (25-16, 13-25, 28-26, 24-26, 15-11) over STAC before a 3-1 triumph (25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23) against Pace.

The match against STAC saw things level at one with GBC down 23-20 in the third set. That was when the Lightning ended things on an 8-3 run to take the lead thanks to six errors from the Spartans and a kill from junior Etta Harris (North East, MD).  Goldey-Beacom recorded 14 kills in the set.

The Lightning (8-2) in the fourth set could not hold on to a late lead, but made amends in the fifth.  GBC ended things on a 7-2 run with Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) recording three kills in that span and fellow sophomore Gabi Fullwood (Powder Springs, GA) adding two, including match point.

Gingras again was on with season highs of 18 kills and 21 digs.  Junior Juliana Malena (Miami, FL) recorded 24 assists and 11 digs, Fullwood and Harris notched 11 kills apiece, sophomore Ashley Fru (Brandywine, MD) dished 14 assists and junior Alyssa Diem (Camden, DE) added 19 digs for the Lightning.

The Pace encounter was a tight one with one exception, the errors.  The Setters were hampered by 23 attack errors and eight service errors that did them in.

Goldey-Beacom in the fourth set was flying with 16 kills.  Harris continued to be a stalwart with five, Gingras notched four and junior Angelica Febres (San Juan PR) added three.

Harris closed with 15 kills, Gingras notched 13 and 16 digs for a third straight double-double, Malena recorded 22 assists and 15 digs for her third straight, Fru had 19 and 13 for her first, Diem amassed 22 digs with Fullwood getting 10 kills.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday opens Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play against Chestnut Hill, beginning at 6:00 pm.
