Goldey-Beacom opened its 2026 men's soccer season Friday at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, falling 3-1 to Pace University.

The Lightning entered the 2026 season welcoming 17 new players as they look to build chemistry and establish their identity.

Goldey-Beacom took an early lead in the 15th minute. Junior Sam Ball (Salisbury, MD) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season with sophomore Alex Sonne (Norman, OK) providing the assist. Pace tied the game in the 31st minute, with Daniel Santos scoring on a penalty kick.

In the second half, the Setters took the 2-1 lead when Alex Squillacioti scored in the 48th minute with an assist from Niall Rodgers. Two minutes later, sophomore Trevor Sullivan (Camden, DE) had a chance to tie the score on a penalty kick, but Joe Zweben saved it. In the 65th minute, Pace's Joshua Zapata added an insurance goal, again assisted by Rodgers, making the final 3-1.
