Game Recap: Baseball |

Trey Mason’s Sensational Catch Highlights Baseball’s Doubleheader Sweep of Felician

Junior Trey Mason (Germantown, MD) made an outstanding catch in game one to rob a home run in Goldey-Beacom's 9-5 win over Felician before the home side completed the sweep in game two, scoring three runs in the last of the seventh inning for a 5-4 triumph in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader in Hockessin, DE.

Goldey-Beacom (13-10, 6-2 CACC) in game one held a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Felician's Rocko Brzezniak stepped to the plate with two outs and Bryce Curry on first base.  Brzezniak cranked one to deep center field that looked like a tying home run, but Mason had other plans in leaping to make a remarkable catch to end the frame.

Sophomore Jaime Neris Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) closed with two home runs and four RBI, giving him the team lead with eight and 21.  The eight long balls are one off reaching the program's single-season top-10 list.

Sophomore Jake Macey (Smyrna, DE) had three hits, freshman Kaden Barmer (Edgewood, MD) launched a solo blast with Mason homering as part of his two hits and three RBI.  Franklinville, NJ sophomore George Starr (1-3) permitted just two runs and four hits over seven-plus innings with senior Kevin Dillon (Mount Bethel, PA) getting a five-out save.

It was Dillon's fifth save of the year, tying the GBC single-season record with Karl Schmidt (2023), and his sixth career to put him one off Schmidt's team record.

Luis De La Cruz had two RBI, including a homer in the first inning to give the Golden Falcons a 1-0 lead.

The Lightning then provided the fireworks in game two, trailing 4-2 going into the seventh and final inning.  Junior Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) drew a leadoff walk and took third when senior Joey Current (Denver, PA) lined a double down the left-field line.  Stewart scored on a wild pitch that sent sophomore pinch-runner Connor Wilson (Clayton, DE) to third base.  Wilson was not there long as another wild pitch plated him for a 4-4 tie.

Barmer walked, Mason popped out, Neris walked and sophomore Zach Smethers (Nazareth, PA) walked to load the bases.  Sophomore Roman Keith (Selbyville, DE) then became the fifth in the inning to walk, but this one plated Barmer for the victory.

Stewart had a two-run homer and Dallas, PA junior Ty Federici (1-1) recorded one out in getting the win.

Curry went 4-for-4 for the Golden Falcons (12-9, 5-3 CACC).

These teams on Sunday will close their three-game series, beginning at noon in Lyndhurst, NJ.
