Goldey-Beacom softball began CACC play at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE and had a 3-0 win over Dominican (NY) in game one before an 8-0 shutout in five innings in the second game of the doubleheader.
Game one saw the Lightning get on the board in the fourth inning on a single from senior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) that scored fellow senior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) for the first run of the game. The next runs for GBC came off of a single from senior Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, N.J.) to left field that sent senior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) and freshman Ayri Hansen (Lakewood, CA) home.
Game two saw the Lightning get out to a quick start, scoring seven of their eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. It started with a single up the middle from freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) that scored junior McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA), then senior Emma Friel singled to left field to allow Gingras to take home. The runs kept coming when freshman Jillian Coulbourn (Frankford, DE) was hit by a pitch to walk home Pelcak, a series of errors scored Friel, and a huge three RBI triple from Chasedy Johnson scored Insinga, Hansen, and Coulbourn. The eighth run for Goldey-Beacom came in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Frank that sent home Hansen.
Goldey-Beacom plays next on Saturday, when it travels to Bridgeport, CT to face Bridgeport for a noon double header.
