Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball’s Eight-Game Winning Streak Halted With 80-78 Loss at Felician

An expected great game between the top two teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference was just that, but did not go Goldey-Beacom's way as its eight-game winning streak ended with an 80-78 loss at Felician in Rutherford, NJ.

The task at hand became more difficult when Jared White slammed one home off a breakaway with 6:49 remaining to give Felician a 71-62 lead.

That was before the Lightning scored the next six points in crawling to 71-68 with 4:44 left.  Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) and junior Elisha Brown (Bowie, MD) each hit a jumper with junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) making two free throws.

The margin did not go beyond four until Tavian Pullock canned a massive 3-pointer from the right corner with 2:24 to go for an 80-75 Golden Falcons cushion.

After Brown hit once from the line with 1:27 left, junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) rebounded his own missed layup and scored with 44 seconds to go for an 80-78 contest.

Felician called timeout and Goldey-Beacom now was faced with one of its biggest defensive opportunities of the season.  Jeremiah Anderson was called upon to give the home side a two-score lead, but his floater was off and the rebound went out of bounds in the Lightning's favor with 17 seconds left.

The Golden Falcons put on great pressure in the backcourt and the Lightning were forced to call timeout with 9.4 seconds remaining.  Powell took the inbounds and drove down the middle, but saw his 15-foot shot hit off the iron as time expired.

Williams again was outstanding, scoring a season-best 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting to go with eight rebounds.  This came after he netted 24 last Saturday vs. Dominican (NY) and 21 on January 14 against Jefferson.

Jones had 15 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the campaign, Powell scored 12 points and sophomore Anthony Akande (Newark, NJ) hauled in a person-best 13 rebounds.

White scored 21 points, Pullock netted 16 with Tristin Harcourt adding 10 and 11 rebounds for Felician.

The Golden Falcons (19-3, 14-1 CACC) now own a four-game lead over the Lightning (16-7, 10-5) for first place in the conference with five games remaining.  Goldey-Beacom's lead for second place is down to one game after Jefferson's victory today at Post.

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday hosts Georgian Court at 8:00 pm.  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 6:00 pm.
