Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Back in the “W” Column With 89-79 Triumph Over Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom shot 60 percent from the field in the second half and fought off a pesky Georgian Court squad in recording its ninth victory in the last 10 outings, an 89-79 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the opening half were up to the challenge against a determined visitor, gaining a 47-39 halftime lead by forcing 12 turnovers.  Freshman Jermai Stewart-Herring (Wilmington, DE) scored 11 points in the half on 5-of-8 shooting with junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) and senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) adding eight apiece.

The Lions closed to 63-58 with 9:40 left before the Lightning used a 15-9 run over five minutes for a 78-67 margin with 4:38 to go that all but ended things.  Junior Elisha Brown (Bowie, MD) scored six points in that span and Allen capped it, getting yet another packed student section on their feet with a thunderous dunk.

Allen poured in 17 points, Jones had 16 and nine rebounds, Stewart-Herring netted 14 points, sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) scored 12 with Brown adding 11 for the Lightning, who shot 15-of-25 from the field in the half and 53 percent (31-of-59) overall.

Cam Edmonds netted 26 points, Donavin Crawford scored 17 with Anthony Gooden adding 11 for the Lions (8-15, 5-10 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (17-7, 11-5) has a two-game lead over Jefferson (9-7) and Caldwell (9-7) for second place in the league.  Felician (15-1) tonight clinched the top seed for the CACC Tournament with its overtime victory over Dominican (NY).

Because of Saturday's matchups that will give someone a 10th loss, Goldey-Beacom has clinched its third consecutive trip to the CACC Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action next Tuesday, when it visits Jefferson for an 8:00 pm game.
