Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tre Powell’s Career Night Not Enough for Men’s Basketball in 90-80 Setback at Jefferson

Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) poured in a career-best 33 points, but it only looked good on the stat sheet as Goldey-Beacom could not overcome Jefferson for a 90-80 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Philadelphia, PA.

Jefferson in the first half closed things on a 50-32 run in opening a 52-40 halftime lead.  Jahmare Memphis ended the half with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting with Sean Fullerton adding 16 on 6-of-8 shooting for the Rams.

Powell netted 22 points in the half on 7-of-12 shooting and was 5-of-7 from three-point range.

The second half would be when the Lightning made the home crowd quiet, using a 15-4 run over the first 4 1/2 minutes for a 56-55 deficit.  Powell netted seven points in that time with junior Elisha Brown (Bowie, MD) adding six.

The Rams then regained the momentum, using an 11-3 burst over four minutes for a 67-58 cushion with 11:41 remaining.  Shane Cercone netted five points with Isaiah Thomas-McClain adding four.

GBC closed to 69-63 with 9:33 to go, but Jefferson poured in the next eight points for a 14-point margin with 5:34 remaining.  Memphis again continued to be a thorn in the Lightning's side with four points, capping it on a driving layup.

Powell shot 11-of-21 from the floor and 5-of-9 from three-point range, besting his 32 points from January 24 against Caldwell.  It was his eighth game this season with at least 20 points.

Junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) poured in 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting for the Lightning.

Memphis finished with 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting, Fullerton scored 21 with Thomas-McClain and Cercone adding 13 apiece for the Rams.

Goldey-Beacom (17-8, 11-6 CACC) remains second in the CACC, but its lead is down to one-half game with Caldwell (11-7) defeating Bridgeport.  Jefferson (14-11, 10-8) holds sole possession of fourth place.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is at fifth-place Post (9-8) for a 1:00 pm game.
