Goldey-Beacom owned a 17-point lead in the second half before Post saw its dormant offense wake up in handing the visitors a 99-92 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Waterbury, CT.
Goldey-Beacom in the last 11 minutes of the opening half went on a 19-12 run to gain a 34-26 halftime lead. Junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) scored six points in that time with sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, NY) adding four.
The Lightning's defense was the star of the show in the first half, holding the Eagles to just 29 percent shooting (10-of-35) and 2-of-16 from three-point range. Post went into the locker room having made just one of its last 15 shots, including none in the final 3:49.
Williams netted 13 points in the first half on 5-of-8 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Blanchet poured in eight points with sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) adding six.
A 25-16 run to open the second half saw the margin pushed to 59-42 with 12:25 remaining. GBC shot 9-12 from the field in that time with Williams netting five points.
The Lightning saw their good fortune end there, giving up a 39-19 spurt over the next 9 1/2 minutes for a stunning 81-78 deficit with three minutes to go. Derrick Thomas II scored 10 points and Harry Scully capped it with a 3-pointer.
Junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) hit twice from the foul line for an 81-80 contest with 2:41 left. Taquan Williams canned a jumper for the Eagles and Deng Akok on the home side's next possession threw down a thunderous dunk for an 85-80 margin with 2:14 to play.
Julian Williams had 22 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the campaign, Powell netted 19 points, Jones had 16 and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double and Blanchet added 16 points for GBC.
Thomas closed with 30 points, Taquan Williams netted 21 with Akok and Cape Holden adding 16 apiece for the Eagles, who scored 73 points after intermission by shooting 67 percent (24-of-36) from the field.
Goldey-Beacom (17-9, 11-7 CACC) remains second in the conference with Caldwell (11-8) and Jefferson (11-8) tied for third. Post (11-15, 10-8) still is in fifth place.
Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday heads to Philadelphia to face Holy Family at 8:00 pm. The women's game between the same schools begins at 6:00 pm.
