Softball Finally Opens Season With Doubleheader at Millersville

Almost a month of postponements, hope and knowing the names of every weather person in the Delaware Valley finally ended with Goldey-Beacom beginning its 2026 season at Millersville for a doubleheader.

Game one in Millersville, PA resulted in an 8-6 loss before a 6-0 setback in the finale.

It also marked the first games since last season's NCAA Tournament, which saw the Lightning as a participant for the first time in program history.  Goldey-Beacom (40-16) notched the most single-season victories for any team in the Athletic Department's 35-year history, became the first GBC program to host an NCAA Tournament event on the Pike Creek campus and played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

The Lightning also made the CACC Tournament in three consecutive seasons for the first time in 19 years and won multiple games in said tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time.

Multiple graduation losses resulted in game one's starting lineup featuring four newcomers and the nightcap's with three.

However in game one, it was the returnees that spearheaded a four-run rally in the top of the fourth inning for a 4-4 tie.  Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) lined an RBI single and fellow senior Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA) leveled things with a two-out, three-run double.

The Lightning (0-2) in the top of the fifth took their first lead of the season with two runs for a 6-4 cushion.  Junior McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) had an RBI single and senior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) crossed home on a wild pitch.

But the Marauders scored four in the sixth for the final.  Hailey Watlington had a two-run single for a 7-6 lead and Cameron Witte added an RBI single.

Game two saw Millersville (2-0) score three times in the last of the first.  Cara Mazzucco cracked a leadoff homer, Jordyn Skarren two batters later hit a solo shot and Jaylee Lose added an RBI single.

Goldey-Beacom now heads to Florida for the USSSA Fastpitch Games.  Its first day is Friday with a 2:30 pm game vs. Concordia-Saint Paul and a 4:45 pm against Florida Tech.
