Sophomore Lydia Betz (Pittsburgh, PA) again continued to torment Georgian Court, scoring a career-best 26 points in leading Goldey-Beacom to a 69-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory in Lakewood, NJ.
Last season with Goldey-Beacom facing elimination, Betz hit the go-ahead layup with 14 seconds left in her team's 78-77 overtime triumph at Georgian Court. Today, Betz reminded the Lions they still have to face her at least five more times over the next 2 1/2 seasons. She shot 9-of-16 from the floor, hauled in eight rebounds and notched a personal-best six blocked shots.
Betz topped her previous high of 24 points set December 3 against Chestnut Hill.
Goldey-Beacom went on a tear early in the fourth quarter, using a 13-6 run over the first 6:44 to grab a 61-51 lead with 3:16 left. Sophomore Marasia Dyes (Binghamton, NY) netted five points in that span with senior Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) adding a 3-pointer.
Imani Gillette, injured early in the fourth quarter, heroically came back for the Lions and hit two key baskets. The last came with 2:34 remaining for a 61-55 contest.
But this was Betz' day as she hit a jumper with 2:10 to go for a 63-55 contest. After Georgian Court's Amyah Bray drilled a 3-pointer with 1:57 left, Betz made a layup with 38 seconds remaining for a 65-58 GBC lead.
Senior Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) scored 13 points on 4-of-4 shooting with seven rebounds, Dyes poured in nine points with Gaia Zimbardo adding seven for the Lightning (2-12, 2-5 CACC).
Gillette closed with 18 points and 10 rebounds with Bray adding 10 points for the Lions (4-10, 3-3).
Betz in the opening half scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting with six rebounds in helping Goldey-Beacom to a 34-29 lead. Ciszkowski poured in eight points on 3-of-3 shooting with two 3-pointers.
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is home against Post for a 1:00 pm contest.
