Men’s Basketball Falls, 81-70, at Bridgeport

Goldey-Beacom aimed for a big comeback against Bridgeport for a second straight year, but this game was not to be in an 81-70 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Bridgeport, CT.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the second half looked to grind out a double-digit comeback, having been down 58-46 with 10:16 remaining.  The squad was going for the same magic from the teams' last meeting, when GBC rallied from 68-50 down with 6:29 left on February 28 for a stunning 86-82 overtime victory.
 
That ship looked to stay on course when junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) hit a jumper with 5:41 to play for a 62-57 deficit.  It capped an 11-4 run in which Goldey-Beacom shot 5-of-8 from the field and sophomore Anthony Akande (Newark, NJ) netted four points.
 
But the Purple Knights had other ideas, using a 10-3 run to grab a 72-60 margin with 2:21 to go.  Bridgeport did its damage at the foul line by going 7-for-9 and GBC during that same period went 0-of-4 from the field, all from 3-point range.
 
The foul line ultimately decided the contest.  Bridgeport shot 14-for-18 from the line in the second half with all coming in the last 5:41 and Goldey-Beacom overall went 12-for-25.
 
Junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) scored 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) notched 15 and seven assists, Williams recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season with sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, NY) adding 12 points for GBC (8-6, 2-4 CACC).
 
Isaiah Sullivan netted 17 points, Jason Edokpayi had 11 and eight rebounds with John Dash adding eight points for Bridgeport (7-5, 4-1).
 
Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday is at Georgian Court.  Please note game time in Lakewood, NJ is at 2:00 pm, which follows the women's contest.
