Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Leaves No Doubt in the Second Half for a 90-78 Triumph Over Caldwell

Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) scored 25 of his career-best 32 points in the second half, when Goldey-Beacom seemingly had control of everything for a 90-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Caldwell at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning's fifth straight win and eighth in the last 10 outings was sealed during a second half in which it seemed they were not going to lose.  Goldey-Beacom shot 46 percent (16-of-35) from the floor with six 3-pointers and was 11-for-13 from the foul line in outscoring Caldwell 49-35.

The Cougars shot 54 percent (14-of-26) from the field in the half, but committed 12 turnovers and were outrebounded 21-12.

Powell simply was outstanding again, shooting 9-of-12 from the field in the second half and 11-of-18 overall.  He also canned five 3-pointers to match his personal best from February 26, 2025 against Saint Thomas Aquinas.

The previous high for Powell was 27 points December 16, 2025 against Molloy.

Goldey-Beacom pulled away with a 12-3 run over four minutes to grab a 90-76 cushion with 17 seconds left.  Junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) hit a 3-pointer with 50 seconds to play as part of his four points in that time and Powell also netted four points.

Junior Elisha Brown (Bowie, MD) had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Jones amassed 11 points and a season-high 12 rebounds with junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) and senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) adding 10 points apiece for the Lightning.

Melvin Evans and DeAngelo Horn scored 20 points apiece for Caldwell (6-12, 4-7 CACC), which shot 44 percent (26-of-59) from the field but committed 17 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom (13-6, 7-4) remains tied for second place with Post (7-4) in the CACC and both are one game clear of Bridgeport (6-5).  The top four teams host a quarterfinal in the CACC Tournament.

This marks the first time Goldey-Beacom recorded a two-game, regular-season sweep of Caldwell since the 1999-2000 season.  This is the first season since the North and South divisions were eliminated, thus everyone in the league now plays each other twice.

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday is at Chestnut Hill for an 8:00 pm contest, which follows the 6:00 pm women's game between the same schools.
