Men’s Basketball Win its Fourth Straight, 98-87 Over Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom received a major battle from a strong Holy Family squad, but did enough to record its fourth straight win with a 98-87 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Tigers more than hung around, especially when Matt Gardler canned a 3-pointer with 7:31 left in closing the margin to 81-72.

But the Lightning pulled away, using a 13-7 run over 4 1/2 minutes for a 94-79 lead with 2:21 remaining en route to their seventh victory in the last nine outings.  Junior Elisha Brown (Bowie, MD) continued his outstanding night with seven points.

Brown matched his career best with 21 points, just 14 days after recording that same total at Georgian Court.  Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) netted 18 points, junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) scored 15 one day after he was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) poured in 14 with senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) adding 13 for GBC, which shot 65 percent (20-of-31) from the floor in the second half and 52 percent (35-of-67) overall.

Di'Andre Howell-South scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting with Gardler adding 17 for the Tigers (8-10, 2-8 CACC), who fell despite shooting 53 percent (16-of-30) from the field in the second half.

After being tied for third place in the CACC entering the night, Goldey-Beacom (12-6, 6-4) now has sole possession of that spot.  It is one-half game behind Post (6-3) for second place and one game in front of four teams.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Caldwell, beginning at 3:00 pm.  This follows the women's 1:00 pm contest between the same schools.
