Men’s Basketball Rolls to 109-72 Triumph Over Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom put on a shooting clinic in the opening half and was on cruise control the rest of the way in a 109-72 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Jefferson at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The first half was a crazy exhibition of efficiency in which the Lightning shot 63 percent (25-of-40) from the floor and 56 percent (10-of-18) from 3-point range for a 62-36 lead.  GBC also held a 22-11 rebounding edge in the half and committed just three turnovers.

Junior Julian Williams (Fayetteville, NC) and sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, NY) each scored 14 points in the half, each shooting 6-of-8 from the field with two 3-pointers.

Goldey-Beacom hauled in the first 11 rebounds of the contest with Jefferson needing 11 1/2 minutes to get its first.  The Lightning (11-6, 5-4 CACC) ended the contest with a 40-26 edge en route to their third straight win and sixth in the last eight outings.

The home side over the first 12 minutes opened a 45-18 lead by shooting an eye-popping 18-of-21 from the floor and 7-of-8 from 3-point range.  Blanchet and Williams poured in nine points apiece.

Williams scored a season-best 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting with nine rebounds and Blanchet netted 18 points to match his season high on 8-of-12 shooting.  Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) scored 17 points, junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) had 11 and nine rebounds, senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) netted 11 points with sophomore Anthony Akande (Newark, NJ) and junior Jalen Robinson (South Orange, NJ) adding 10 apiece.

Moustapha Sanoh scored 13 points with Shane Cercone and Brendan Mykalico adding 10 apiece for the Rams (9-6, 5-3), who shot 45 percent (29-of-64) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom is off until next Tuesday, when it hosts Holy Family at 8:00 pm.  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 6:00 pm.
