Women’s Tennis Gives All in 7-0 Loss to Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom played shorthanded against Jefferson, but its effort and determination was on point in a 7-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at The Independence School in Newark, DE.
 
The Lightning (1-3, 1-3 CACC) only had five healthy players against one of the league's top squads, but almost came out on top in first doubles.  Freshman Jenna Frank (Ulm, Germany) and senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) rallied from 5-2 down, two service breaks down and staved off five match points to force a tiebreak with Alycia Veroux and Madina Omarova.  The GBC pair held its own, but was handed a 7-5 loss in the tiebreak.
 
Corte then had the closest singles match, falling 6-4, 6-4 to Marely Alvarado at No. 3 singles.  Senior Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) was dealt a 6-4, 6-3 setback at second singles by Marta Vazquez.
 
Jefferson moved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the league.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Post for a 1:00 pm match.
