Volleyball Selected to Close Third in the CACC South Division

8/20/2025 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom, one season removed from taking a huge step forward in looking get back to the league's summit, was picked to end third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division based on a vote of the league's coaches.

A key addition to last year's squad was Gaby Fernandez (Arecibo, PR), a dynamic libero who was picked second team All-CACC and electrified with many incredible digs and exciting play.  Competing in all 30 matches during her freshman campaign, she closed 23rd in the nation and second in the CACC with 583 digs for the second-best single-season total in school history.

Junior Giuliana Jaku (Frontin, Italy) last season joined the squad at outside hitter and gave the Lightning a massive lift in recording nine double-doubles.  With Goldey-Beacom's season on the line in the finale at Wilmington, Jaku came up huge with 26 kills in helping the squad clinch a berth in the CACC Tournament.

Sophomore setter Ada Koksal (Istanbul, Turkiye) played great in helping the Lightning achieve their historic campaign.  Three times picked CACC Rookie of the Week, Koksal ended 56th in the country and second in the CACC with 1,011 assists for the second-best single-season total in school history.

Goldey-Beacom also is ecstatic to welcome 10 newcomers, including five freshmen, eager to work their way into the lineup.

The Lightning a year ago produced a beyond-remarkable season in which the expectations were darn-near zero, but the results were monumental and memorable.  Thanks to a complete change of everything under first-year coach Alexa Poss, Goldey-Beacom (15-15, 8-8 CACC) made the 2024 campaign a stunning one after the team only won two matches in 2022 and just five sets in 2023.

Closing as the fourth seed from the South Division, the Lightning made just their second CACC Tournament appearance since 2006 and first since 2017.

After the top four teams in each of the two divisions (North and South) make the conference tournament, Championship Weekend takes on a whole new meaning with Goldey-Beacom serving as host.  The semifinals are November 22 and the final is the 23rd.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season September 5, facing Clarion and Roberts Wesleyan in Clarion, PA.
