Softball Advances To CACC Championship After 4-0 Victory Against Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom softball rebounded impressively after a second-round setback against Wilmington (DE) in the double-elimination Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, shutting out Jefferson 4-0 to earn a spot in the championship round.

The Lightning, who on Thursday upset top-seeded Bridgeport, carried that momentum into Friday's matchup and rolled past Jefferson in moving one step closer to capturing the program's first CACC championship. The win marked Goldey-Beacom's 37th of the season, tying the school's all-time record for most victories in a single year.

Sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) got Goldey-Beacom on the board in the second inning with an RBI double to right-center, driving in senior Bri Snover (Claymont, DE). Senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) kept the momentum going, delivering a two-RBI single up the middle to bring home Frank and fellow senior Davi Jimenez (Vineland, NJ), giving the Lightning a 3-0 lead after two innings. Junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) capped the scoring in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home junior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ) to add the exclamation point to GBC's victory.

Frank and senior Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, MD) finished with two hits apiece with Mirenda, senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) and Jimenez all added one hit. Senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, Md.) allowed only five hits in a complete game, while striking out four and improving to 18-5 from the mound.

Goldey-Beacom faces cross-town rival, Wilmington (DE), for the fourth time this season in the championship round tomorrow at 11:00am.  GBC will need to win in order to force an "if-necessary" game 30 minutes later.
