Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Wins Two At Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom softball improved its winning streak to nine straight games with a doubleheader sweep of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-foe Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.

Game one saw nine innings be played, with Goldey-Beacom taking the 6-3 victory after scoring three runs in the top of the ninth. The Lightning are now 6-0 in games where extra innings are played.

Senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) scored the first run of the game after fellow senior Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, Md.) singled up the middle for the RBI. Jefferson scored two runs of its own in the third inning, the first off of an error and the second coming from a single by Remy Smith to send Alleigh Waskie home.

The Lightning added two more in the fifth inning on a single from Bohmann that advanced junior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, N.J.) and on an error that led Bohmann home. Jefferson evened the score at three in the sixth inning when Bridget Shields scored on an error. Goldey-Beacom rallied in the ninth inning for the victory when sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, Pa) hit a double to left center for two runs and Bohmann hit a single to send Frank home.

Senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, Md.) continued to dominate from the mound, pitching a complete game to finish with eighth strikeouts and improve to 14-3.

Game two saw similar play from GBC, holding Jefferson to only one run. Senior Ariana Mirenda got things started in the first inning with a two-run homer to left field, her first of the season. In the second inning, junior Autumn Simpson scored on an error off of a hit by sophomore Chaneyl Johnson (Egg Harbor City, N.J.). The single run for Jefferson came in the bottom of the second off of a home run by Caitlyn Senkow down the left field line.

The fourth inning saw Frank bat in two more runs with a double to left field before Bohmann wrapped things up in the seventh inning with a home run to center field, her second of the season.

Senior Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) had yet another strong showing from the mound, pitching a complete game and ending the night with 10 strikeouts, improving to 10-0 on the season.  McLane now has 32 victories that puts her in sole possession of second in team history and one off the school record.  Her 266 strikeouts are tied for second and one off the team mark.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action Monday, when it plays Bridgeport in a doubleheader at 2:00pm at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE.
