Senior Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) broke the program's career strikeouts record and matched the team's wins mark in Goldey-Beacom's 5-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Bridgeport after her squad dropped a 7-2, eight-inning contest in the opener at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
McLane (11-0) struck out eight in tossing a three-hit shutout and now has 274 career strikeouts, breaking the mark of 267 held by GBC Athletics Hall-of-Famer Kendra Russell. It also was McLane's 33rd career victory, equaling the top mark held by Russell and Tiffany Frick. Her 11 victories puts her 10th on the school's single-season list and her 76 strikeouts this year are 10th.
Game one saw little scoring action until the top of the sixth inning, when Angela Oros singled up the middle to send Sydnee Perreault home for Bridgeport's first run. GBC evened the score in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings when sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) singled up the middle to score junior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ).
Bridgeport (28-11, 12-6 CACC) came out swinging in the eighth inning, getting two singles from Charlee Horton and Paityn Thibodeaux to score two runs, scoring one run off a walk and three more off a triple to right center from Sydnee Perreault. The Lightning scored once on a fielder's choice before Bridgeport closed the game.
Game two saw Goldey-Beacom come out strong, scoring its first two runs on Frank's double down the left-field line that sent home freshman Josalyn McMillan (Rising Sun, MD) and sophomore Chaneyl Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ). The next three runs came in the bottom of the fifth off a single from senior Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, MD), a double from senior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and a single from junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD).
Goldey-Beacom (28-11, 12-6) also secured a berth in the CACC Tournament by virtue of Felician splitting its doubleheader at Dominican (NY). It is the third straight appearance for GBC in the CACC Tournament, a feat last accomplished 19 years ago.
Goldey-Beacom plays next on Wednesday, when it travels to Bensalem, PA to play Holy Family in a doubleheader at 2:00 pm.
