Morgan McLane Becomes Softball’s Winningest Pitcher in Her Squad’s DH Sweep at Holy Family; GBC Listed in First East Regional Ranking

Senior Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) became the winningest pitcher in Goldey-Beacom history, helping her side to a wild 14-13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Holy Family in game one before her squad's 14-4 game-two triumph in Philadelphia, PA.

McLane (12-0) had to survive a battle for her 34th career victory, breaking a tie she shared with Tiffany Frick and GBC Athletics Hall-of-Famer Kendra Russell.  McLane's 12th victory puts her tied for ninth on the school's single-season list and her 79 strikeouts are ninth.

Senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) cracked a three-run homer in the fourth for a 7-2 GBC lead before her squad plated four in the fifth, keyed by a two-run double from sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA), for a nine-run margin.

GBC appeared headed to a run-rule win before Kylee Jones hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Lily Hoban added a two-RBI single in bringing Holy Family within 11-6.

The Lightning held a 14-6 lead entering the last of the seventh before the Tigers scored seven times to make things interesting.  Emma Clayborne blasted a grand slam and Rylee Hobel added a two-run single.

Bohmann and Frank ended with three hits apiece.  Clayborne finished with two home runs, three hits and six RBI with Carlie Miller also getting three hits for the Tigers (18-18, 11-7 CACC).

GBC in game two eradicated a 3-0 deficit with seven runs in the top of the third.  Senior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) had a two-run double in the frame and junior Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA) added a three-run double.

The margin was 7-4 before the Lightning scored five in the fourth, keyed by Lowry's second two-run double.  Bohmann continued her red-hot play with a two-run homer in the fifth for the final.

The two home runs put Bohmann in sole possession of second place in team history with 12 career.

Lowry and Friel had three hits apiece with freshman Josalyn McMillan (Rising Sun, MD) adding two.  Frank also had two hits and now is riding a 15-game hitting streak.

Alesia Doctor struck out two over five innings for GBC.

Goldey-Beacom (30-11, 14-6 CACC) now sits third in the conference with two games left and many teams having a ridiculous number of games in hand.

Goldey-Beacom on Friday entertains Post for an 11:00 am doubleheader in Wilmington.

The Lightning also learned after the game they are listed in the first NCAA East Regional Rankings.  As has become customary with seemingly all Division II regional rankings, the first listing is in alphabetical order.
